Schedule for Breakfast at Wimbledon

Depending on your local TV coverage, the matches usually start early, so here is a party plan guaranteed to have everything ready in time for you to be able to relax with your guests.

Day before:

  • Buy groceries
  • Set your buffet table
  • Get out all the serving pieces, dishes, cups, glassware, flatware and napkins you will be using.  Don’t forget a cream pitcher and sugar for the tea.
  • Make doughnuts.  Store between layers of waxed paper and cover with waxed paper or a brown paper bag.  Don’t store in plastic, or they will get soggy.
  • Sift dry ingredients for muffins into a plastic container.  Cover and set aside, being careful not to cause it to settle too much.
  • Put butter for muffins out to soften overnight.
  • Wash and hull strawberries.  Chill strawberries and whole melons.
  • Chill passion fruit juice in a pitcher.  Chilling the pitcher along with the juice will help it stay cold on the buffet table.
  • Chill champagne.
  • Cut steak into bite-sized pieces and refrigerate.
  • Bake potatoes; cool and refrigerate.
  • Prepare bread crumbs for tomatoes.  Store at room temperature.
  • Prepare custard for trifle and refrigerate.

Early morning, before guests arrive:

  • Assemble trifle and chill.
  • Prepare and bake muffins.
  • Cook cottage fries and set aside.
  • Cook steak and set aside.
  • Slice melon and arrange on a tray with strawberries.
  • Arrange doughnuts and muffins on buffet table.

As guests arrive:

  • Arrange champagne and passion fruit juice on buffet table.
  • Heat water and prepare tea; put on buffet table.
  • Pour yourself a mimosa and sit down to watch the match.

10 minutes before you want to eat the steak ‘n eggs:

  • Preheat oven to 400º for tomatoes.
  • Warm cottage fries.
  • Warm steak (careful not to overcook)
  • Put tomatoes in to bake.
  • Scramble eggs.
  • Enjoy.
